Dopey Challenge Week 13 – Day’s 1 and 2 and 3

This weeks Dopey Challenge Training (by Jeff Galloway), called for:

Tuesday 45 Minutes I ran 4 miles in 41:58, on Monday, with Doug, from our local running club.

Thursday 45 minutesI ran 3 miles in 33:45, with my friend Kylee, at Beutter Park in Mishawaka.  Below are some photos of the area.  It’s about a 2.5 mile loop, all paved sidewalks, along the river.

Here are some of riverwalk shots from Beutter Park.  Kylee and I have run here a number of times now.  There is a 5k held here once a year.  Like I said above, there is a 2.5 mile loop.  The 5k looks like it would start somewhere in the parking lot, run around the parking lot and then hit this loop.

I tracked my run with both my Runkeeper app and my Nike+ watch.  The mileage was a little off on Runkeeper because I had started it a little later than my watch.

Saturday 3 milesI had to have Gabby to marching band practice at 10am, for their competition last night.  So after I dropped her off, I ran around the large block that the school sits on.  I wasn’t sure how far this run would actually take me, or how many times I’d have to do the loop to get to my 3 miles.  I started off in the parking lot and headed out.  I had to stop twice to fix my bun.  I ended up just leaving it in a pony tail, which then makes it stick to the back of my neck.  Ugh.  My hair is getting too long to stay in the bun when I run.  The direction I headed on this route, put me in a uphill situation.  I knew this going into the run, that I would have to run up the hill on Blazer Blvd.  By the time I made the first loop and got back to the parking lot I was at about 1.6 miles.  So I was just going to run it twice and call it good.  Other than the two hair stops I made, I walked for about .05 miles to get a drink and then I was off an running again.  I was watching my pace and my time during this run and I don’t know why I felt I needed to run it at a race pace.  I wasn’t in a huge hurry to get it done.  But was kind of disappointed with my time.  The run felt good, but for some reason I thought that I was going to run this in a sub 30.  I have to remind myself that these are training runs and that not every run is going to be a PR.

Do you track your shoe mileage?  Through the RunKeeper app you can link to this shoe tracker.  Looks like my Brooks Glycerin 12’s are ready to be retired.  They’ve hit 493 miles already.  I really like my Brooks Launch 2’s.  These are the Yellow/Purple ones on the list.  I also like the cost of them much better as well.  The Glycerin 12’s ran me $150.00, whereas the Launch 2’s only ran me $100.00.  I’d really like to get another pair or two in some of the other colors that are offered.

I got myself registered for my next half marathon.  At this time, I still have 4 more to go before I reach my goal of 12 for the year.  I’m all signed up for the Haunted Hilly Half, put on by Stone Soup Promotions.  This race is a fundraiser for the Elkhart County Down Syndrome Support Group.

Tuesday: 45 minutes
Thursday: 45 minutes
Saturday: 5.5 mile walk
Sunday: 15 mile run
